Canada is the ancestral home of people from many nations, languages and cultures, who lived on lands and waters across diverse landscapes. The Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) lived in relationship with this land, supporting their peoples and cultures through gathering, hunting and cultivation from Time Immemorial, before Europeans, Asians and others explored and settled in what is now Canada. Since then, the story of Indigenous peoples has been one dominated by dispossession of land. As Marxists, we are committed to telling the truth about Canada’s founding as a colonial and capitalist state. The wealth of the capitalist class was, and still is, built on the suffering and death of Indigenous peoples and the theft of land. As Marx put it, “capital comes dripping from head to toe, from every pore, with blood and dirt.” We acknowledge that this legacy affects every aspect of the lives of Indigenous people in Canada. We commit to working towards a future where land is held in common for the use and benefit of all. | Theme: News Portal by Mystery Themes.
