COPE Vancouver City Council candidate Jean Swanson
Socialist Alternative’s Seattle City Councillor Kshama Sawant
Saturday October 13,
7-9 pm, SFU Harbour Centre Room, Room 1900
With all 2018 COPE candidates: Anne Roberts, Derrick O’Keefe, Barb Parrott, Diana Day, Gwen Giesbrecht and John Irwin.
Two fearless activists who brought their fight for social justice to city hall, Kshama Sawant and Jean Swanson, talk about their People-Powered campaigns to galvanize cities run for too long by the mega-rich and developer-backed political parties.
Kshama Sawant is an activist who brings a passion for social justice to her work on Seattle city council. Sawant successfully ran for council on a bold platform of “Fight for $15” to increase the minimum wage, implement rent control and tax the super-rich to fund mass transit and education. Kshama is a member of Socialist Alternative, and has been described as the second best-known socialist in the US (after Bernie Sanders).
Named “Best City Activist” by the Georgia Straight winner for her lifelong activism, 2018 COPE candidate Jean Swanson re-set the Vancouver “politics as usual” agenda by calling for a #RentFreeze and a #MansionTax to counter the political and developer machinery at city hall.
This event is held on the occupied, unceded and ancestral territories of the Coast Salish Peoples
